The manager of Arsenal, Arsene Wenger, has said that Theo Walcott would not leave the club and the club would extend the contract of the Englishman pretty soon. Walcott’s contract would get completed at the end of this season and Arsenal is keen to extend the contract of Walcott, but, the English striker is not signing a new deal because he wants his wages to be increased. According to some reports, Walcott wants a weekly salary of 100,000 Pounds. Arsenal has already lost its two key players i.e. Robin Van Persie and Alex Song this summer and Arsene Wenger doesn’t want another important player to leave the club.
Walcott has been playing for Arsenal since the last 6 years. He had joined the club in January 2006. Arsenal had bought him from Southampton after paying a transfer fee of 5 million pounds. Walcott played his first match in the Premier League against Aston Villa. Walcott scored his first goal for Arsenal against Chelsea in the final of the 2007 League Cup. Walcott played decently in the 2007-08 season and scored 7 goals for Arsenal. He was given regular chances to play in the earlier part of the 2008-09 season. Walcott injured his shoulder in November 2008. Due to that injury, he had to miss a lot of matches in the 2008-09 season.
Walcott’s performance has been fantastic in the last two seasons. In the last season, he was the hero of many victories of Arsenal. According to some reports, Liverpool and Chelsea have shown interest in Walcott. If Walcott decides to leave arsenal, it would be a huge blow for the club which is already hampered by the exit of Van Persie and Song.
Meanwhile, Arsene Wenger has said that he is looking to sign one more player, preferably midfielder, before the closure of the transfer window. As per Wenger, he is in touch with the agents of some players and hopefully, he would sign a quality midfielder before 31st August.
