Arsenal winger Theo Walcott said that he is disappointed for having been left out of the England national team.
He said that he does not understand the England manager’s decision to ax him out of the team since he has been one of the leading scorers in the Premier League this season.
England manager Gareth Southgate has admitted that Theo Walcott was not happy with his decision and that he has made his position clear. The manager stated that the Arsenal player phoned him and told him what he thinks about his decision.
Gareth Southgate said that he might have made a mistake to announce Walcott that he will not be part of the England team on the day of his birthday. However, he said that he had a decision to make and that he believes he made the right one by not selecting the Arsenal winger.
Gareth Southgate said that Theo Walcott has not been in form in recent games and that he did not believe that he will be an asset to the team at the moment. He recognizes that Theo Walcott is a great player and that once he is back in form, he will definitely get his place back in the team. However, he feels that at the moment the player will have to work on his fitness level in order to win back his place in the team.
The England winger said that he is disappointed with the decision of the England manager as he feels that he had a great chance to be in the team especially with the absence of Harry Kane. He believes that he has been consistent ever since the start of the season. He said that he would be using his free time to train harder with Arsenal and ensure that he finish the season strongly.
