Talismanic Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has expressed his delight that manager Arsene Wenger has pledged his future to the club after months of speculation.
Speaking to a television channel, the England international stated that he was very pleased upon hearing the news of the manager’s extension. He went to add that Wenger was the primary reason that he chose to join Arsenal, snubbing several other offers.
Walcott went on to add that now that he has tasted success once again, Wenger will want it to continue for a long time. He mentioned that the Frenchman has mentioned several times that this is the best squad he has had in his time at North London and the England man believes the squad has underachieved a lot.
And Theo Walcott believes that the players need to repay the faith Wenger has shown in them by pushing harder after the success of this past season and try to make the new season even better.
Walcott, who has been sidelined from the World Cup after undergoing knee surgery, was asked whether he thought Arsenal could challenge from the Premier League title next time around and the Englishman said that it is imperative for player like him, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey to remain fully fit throughout the season to mount a serious challenge.
Once a first team player gets ruled out, everything changes; the whole set up of the team needs to change and that is something that happened when the likes of Ramsey and Wilshere were forced out with injuries.
Arsenal spent a whopping 127 days at the top of the standings and still finished fourth and Theo Walcott believes they need one good season and the titles will come thick and fast and they can challenge on a regular basis as well.
