Danny Mills says Everton need to find balance under Marco Silva

Former Premier League star Danny Mills has said that Everton have the potential within the current squad but that has not quite translated in the form of victories. The Merseyside outfit made an impressive end to the previous season as they finished eighth and there were expectations that they could make a real push for the European places this term.

However, things have gone pear-shaped since the start of the season and a four-match losing run has dropped them into the relegation places before the international break. Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Mills said that the Toffees have shown plenty of promise this term but they have lacked the collective performance to get over the line.

He added that it may be only a matter of time before they can find the consistency required to propel them to the top half of the table, he told: “Everton, you can see the potential, it just hasn’t quite clicked. We’re just waiting for that to happen, there have been games where there’s been a lot of promise, you think they’ve turned the corner and then they take a step backwards.

“It’s just finding the balance and the best way to play with these players. It’s not quite happening at the moment. It’s been a season of promise and they quite clearly haven’t delivered. You look at it on paper, they’ve got a good squad of players. They’re just finding it difficult to find that rhythm and find that consistency.”

Everton are scheduled to face West Ham United after the international break and they can’t anticipate another tough game on the cards. The Hammers have fared much better than during the opening phase of the season and they are currently in the top half of the table with a five-point advantage over Marco Silva’s side. A fifth league defeat on the bounce would surely put Silva on the brink of being sacked from the head coach role.
