Southampton forward Theo Walcott is considering a move to the MLS (Major League Soccer) after falling out of favour with manager Ralph Hassenhuttl according to The Sun. Veteran England international Walcott was restricted to just 12 games in all competitions during the latest season with his last appearance coming in the FA Cup in February.
33-year-old Walcott is said to be contemplating the possibility of leaving English football for the MLS with Los Angeles and New York as his preferred destinations. The Englishman has the likes of Los Angeles Galaxy (LA Galaxy), Los Angeles FC (LAFC), New York City FC (NYCFC) and New York Red Bulls (NYRB) in his sights.
Walcott started his career at Southampton as he rose through the ranks to make his first-team debut in 2005. He left to join North London club Arsenal in a high-profile transfer in January 2006. Theo Walcott made the headlines when he went to the 2006 World Cup with the England squad as a teenager under manager Sven-Goran Eriksson. He spent a decade and two years at Arsenal before signing for Everton in a £20m deal in January 2018. The forward was with the Merseyside club until he returned to Southampton on loan for the final year of his Everton contract.
At the start of last season, Theo Walcott was given a two-year contract after his impressive loan spell in the previous season. He was a regular in the Saints attack during the loan spell, but things have changed with Hassenhuttl preferring options such as Mohamed Elyounoussi, Stuart Armstrong, Nathan Redmond and Nathan Tella ahead of Theo Walcott who has one year left on his Saints contract.
In addition to Walcott, the Southampton futures of players such as Alex McCarthy (goalkeeper), Willy Caballero (goalkeeper), Fraser Forster (goalkeeper), Shane Long (attacker) and Jack Stephens (defender) are in doubt with their respective contracts up this summer.
